Press Release: Research Paper Published on a Survey Experiment Regarding Generic Names for Labeling Foods Made from Cultured Cells

Megumi Avigail Yoshitomi, a Visiting Researcher at the Economic Security Intelligence Lab (Igata Laboratory), Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), the University of Tokyo, and Representative Director of our organization, together with Professor Aiko Hibino of the Institute of Future Science, Institute of Science Tokyo, conducted an online survey of 6,000 panel participants aged from their 20s to their 60s regarding “generic names for labeling foods made from cultured cells.”

The findings are scheduled to be published in Future Foods (Volume 13, June 2026) as “Consumer clarity or technological prestige? The choice of names: A survey experiment on Japanese nomenclature for labeling food made with cultured cells.” The paper was first made available online via ScienceDirect on March 25, 2026.
